A Child Exchange and Visitation Center (CEVC) Volunteer is a trained citizen who is appointed by the Judge to represent the best interests of a child in court. CEVC Volunteers are individuals who express a genuine concern for the welfare of children. The ability to communicate, in both written and verbal forms, is a strong factor for consideration.
The role of the volunteer is to ensure a safe visit and positive environment for the child during the visits. The volunteer will remain with the child at ALL times. The Volunteer will observe the visit between the child and parent and will document the interaction. Strict Confidentiality will be maintained at all times.
Volunteers must have no record of confirmed involvement of child abuse or neglect or conviction of a felony crime. To avoid a conflict of interest, no volunteer shall be certified if he or she is currently employed by the Juvenile Division of the District Court, the Youth Services of DCF, or the contracting foster care agency.
Individuals must be over 18, complete application, interview, successful background screenings, and all training requirements. CASA provides all training for the position. Trainings classes are offered 4 times per year. Each class consists of four sessions (usually held in the evenings).
All visits will occur at the CASA office in Atchison.
